Road Trip Marketing: Western Australia04.29.10 at 5:17 pm by Alan BeberwyckMarketing Destination Tourism and Travel By LandOne of the emerging trends in travel that we’re following at Wanderlust is the return of the road trip. Not a new concept in travel, of course. Before the boom of easy, affordable airline travel, the family station wagon was still the way most Americans reached their vacation getaways. Even when gas prices topped $4 per gallon, Americans were hitting the road in growing numbers. So when I stumbled across the “Extraordinary Taxi Ride” promotion, I was on board. I’m always on the lookout for great travel and tourism marketing and the “Experience Extraordinary” campaign from Western Australia has everything it takes to go the distance.
A simple, engaging way to promote travel and tourism
The website describes an epic road tripHere’s an excerpt from the “Extraordinary Taxi Ride” website: In 2010 'extraordinary' comes to life with a new take on the epic road trip: a 9-week journey to explore the people, stories, sights and experiences of Western Australia - in a taxi. We're off exploring the many extraordinary corners of Western Australia, from the whitest beach in Australia at Lucky Bay in Esperance to the tiger striped Bungle Bungle Range in World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park in the Kimberley. Be a part of The Extraordinary Taxi Ride with all the latest news, photos, videos and adventures updated each week here on the official website. Then embark on your own adventure around Western Australia by downloading the itineraries for each leg to your TomTom GPS or visit one of our exclusive travel partners for great holiday deals. Thank you for bringing this one to our attention. I've made a relevant post on my blog a few weeks ago.
Today, modern road tripping is a fast growing hobby, and not just a means of vacationing. Groups & individuals dedicated to the art of the road trip, known either as professional road trippers or road enthusiasts, are becoming prevalent online. NTOs & DMOs have repeatedly invested on the road trip concept towards their tourism campaigns in the past, however, the last couple of years more & more marketing agencies are reinventing the concept through innovative & out-of-the box promotional campaigns.
