Shipley named to EO BoardWanderlust President leads educational events for Entrepreneurs’ Organization
BackSeptember 1, 2009 — Travel marketing and destination branding agency Wanderlust announced that its President and Chief Strategic Officer, Mark D. Shipley, has been named to the Board of Directors for the Albany, New York Chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, a.k.a. EO. A global network of business owners, EO was founded to help entrepreneurs achieve business success. Shipley has been an active member in the Albany chapter since 2007.
In addition to his seat on the Board of Directors, Shipley assumed the role of Learning Chair for the EO through June, 2011. As an organization dedicated to learning and personal growth, most of the EO’s chapter functions feature a learning component or experiential activity. Shipley is responsible for selecting speakers and activities for chapter-wide events, negotiating fees and organizing venues and logistics.
“As past president of the Albany Chapter of the American Marketing Association, I strived to elevate the quality of speakers and activities presented at our local functions,” said Shipley. “I have the same goal for EO events, and have selected topics and experiences that I find particularly engaging and relevant to entrepreneurs.”
July’s EO event featured a presentation by Arnold Schmied, president of Silhouette International in Linz, Austria, on repositioning a fashion brand to a specialty eyewear brand. Upcoming events include a presentation and paintball competition at Windham Mountain, where president and general manager Tim Woods will discuss how to run a weather-dependent business in the face of climate change and declining skier visits, and an October presentation by Glenn Epstein, former CEO of Intermagnetic General, who was hired to turn around the struggling business and negotiate a profitable sale of the company. November brings “The Real Ninja;” martial arts master Parrish Rowland’s motivational training for business success, which includes ninjutsu fighting tactics and sword wielding.
“Besides offering refreshing and original presentations like the Real Ninja, my role as Learning Chair allows me to attend events like the EO’s Global Learning Conference in New Orleans last April, and opportunities to meet people from around the world,” commented Shipley. “I’ll also be a member of the marketing committee for the EO’s 2010 Nerve Conference in Washington, DC, an international symposium hosted by the Atlantic States Chapters."
