HomeAway Names Windham Among Top 10 Emerging Travel Hot Spots

Rebranding can pay big dividends when it’s done properly.

Five years ago, Wanderlust was hired to rebrand Windham Mountain in Upstate New York. Every year since — including the worst snow year in 20 years — Windham has experienced a consistently growing buzz that has resulted in record skier days and strong revenue year after year. And that's without resorting to excessive discounting and aggressive price promotions during a recession.

Wanderlust has won a host of awards for our travel marketing work for Windham, including the prestigious Rebrand 100, HSMAI's Adrian Awards, Creativity International Awards, American Corporate Identity Awards, Graphic Design USA Annuals, and the annual MarComm Awards.

HomeAway, the world’s leading online vacation rental marketplace, released its quarterly HomeAway Vacation Rental Marketplace Report this week. If you scroll down to the Emerging Travel Hotspots (a.k.a. Top 10 Destinations with the Largest Percent Increase in Traveler Interest from Q1 2009 to Q1 2010 on Homeaway.com), you’ll find Windham at "number nine." Apropos, considering that the 09/10 call to action was “Come Together.”

Who would have thought that five years later, that little ski hill in the Catskills would become the sophisticated, playful alpine experience it is today. And one of the top emerging destinations for real estate rentals, too.
