Yankee Clipper Gets ID’dWanderlust creates identity for mountain bike races at Windham Mountain
BackSeptember 8, 2009 — Travel marketing and destination branding agency Wanderlust recently completed a new graphic identity for the Yankee Clipper mountain bike race at Windham Mountain. The Troy-based firm was hired by Windham Mountain to rebrand the ski resort in 2006, and then asked to create this destination brand extension for their new series of Summer mountain bike racing events. Wanderlust applied the identity to event marketing including online banner advertising, on-premises marketing materials, outdoor, direct mail and print advertising.
“Windham Mountain is a already a top destination resort for skiers and snowboarders in New York’s Catskill Mountains,” said Wanderlust Director of Media Integration, Amanda Wheeler. “The addition of mountain bike racing adds another dimension to the resort and extends its appeal as a year-round destination. Having a strong, unified identity introduces Windham as championship-caliber mountain bike racing facility and an attractive destination for racers and spectators alike.”
The Yankee Clipper logo features a playful off-road twist on familiar road signage, with a universal-symbol cyclist descending a steep, rugged mountain face. Stylized, contemporary typography reflects the mountain bike community’s lifestyle and attitudes, while strong color and rough textures energize the juxtaposition between off-road racing and the highway signage theme.
“The Windham Mountain brand is all about the playful, sophisticated alpine experience,” Wheeler adds. “The Yankee Clipper identity reinforces that position with a light-hearted, yet exciting look for this thrilling mountain sport. Anyone involved in mountain biking will instantly recognize Windham as a world-class mountain bike racing venue”
